Greek cheeses continue to stand out worldwide, with 13 of them in the top 50 of TasteAtlas
Greece can be proud of its cheeses, since both the island and the mainland produce excellent products. The recent distinction in Taste Atlas that concerns not one, but thirteen products, comes to confirm once again the power and value of Greek cheese. Of the thirty-five cheeses that are included in the list of 1350 cheeses in the world, thirteen are in the top 50 while three are in the top 5 of the list, well above countries with a tradition in cheese-making such as Italy and France.
Taste Atlas, the gastronomic site that aims to record, preserve and develop local flavors and restaurants serving traditional cuisine around the world, places the Kalathaki Limnou second behind the Brazilian canastra, followed by Graviera Naxou in third place, with Metsovone the homonymous cheese of Metsovo being fifth.
Also, the top 11 include Kefalotyri (No10) and Graviera Kritis (No11), while quite high on the list are Galotyri (No15), San Michalis (No16), Kefalograviera (No19) and Kopanisti (No21)..
