The barley bun – “giant” was kneaded in the kneading machine of the Cretans Artos in Heraklion, Crete

Just outside Heraklion, Crete, the largest dakos barley roll in history was kneaded, baked and presented by the award-winning company for the production of traditional Greek products “Kriton Artos”, claiming a worthy place in the Guinness Book of Records!
The barley cake – “giant” was kneaded in the kneading machine of “Cretan Bread” and its presentation took place in the village of Kato Vathia of Heraklion, in an impressive event with traditional food and live music.
In fact, in order to bake the specific barley bun, a special oven with the specific dimension had to be made and the dough was placed in a pan with a diameter of 1.5 meters. As for the materials used to make it, that was… a lot! The thickness of the barley dako was about 15 cm, when a simple dako does not exceed 2 cm. The weight of the barley roll was about 150 kg, while the dakos together with the tomatoes, the cheese, the oregano and the olive oil exceeded 200 kg!
