Novak Saperavi 2017

Dry wine produced from grapes of the Saperavi variety, handpicked from the estate's own vineyards in southern Moldova. This noble wine matured for 12 months in Romanian 500 liter barriques from Transylvania and has an intense grenache color. Subtle nuances of white and black pepper dominate aromatically and are framed by layered hints of red and black berries. Intense and balanced in the mouth with a very long aftertaste.

Novak is a relatively young Moldovan winery led by winemaker Andrey Novak. He has his vineyards in the south of Moldova near the towns of Comrat, Tartaul and Ciobalaccia. Where his father grew grapes for bulk wines, Andrey does small-scale bottling of his own wines. It stands out among other Moldovan wineries as it focuses on forgotten indigenous grape varieties with the aim of giving them a new lease of life.
