In 1940, Manolis returns from working in the fields of Naxos when an eerie silence sweeps through the village. Within seconds, he finds himself running for his life, chased by German soldiers. He swiftly climbs the stairs and slips outside, with the soldiers closing in on him. His desperate attempt to find refuge in a false dead-end and the inevitability of violence follow. The soldiers demand to know where the oil and wine are hidden, but he remains silent, enduring the lashings that leave marks on his body. Despite the pain, his silence becomes a form of resistance, and his resilience is rooted in the hope carried by the land.

Years later, in Athens in 2016, his grandson, inspired by the stories of his grandfather, decides to follow the same path. After graduating from the Agricultural University, he returns to Naxos, working the land his grandfather loved so much. With respect and dedication to tradition, Manolis Petrakis creates his own farm, producing wine and olive oil, continuing his grandfather’s legacy and honoring the hard work of his ancestors.
