Profile

An Agronomy Graduate in 1996, major in Plant Protection and specialized in Edaphology, I began my professional career working as an edaphologist, performing edaphic analyses throughout Greece. This way I got more familiar with Greek viniculture while I was introduced to many Greek and foreign vine varieties.

In 1998, after having thoroughly collected and recorded the data and pictures needed, and having gained the necessary experience, I cultivated my first vineyard in Nees Karyes, Larissa, in a 1.25 acre area, growing 22 different Greek and foreign varieties of vines for the production of white and red wine. The purpose of this undertaking was to explore the possibility of all these varieties adapting to the area microclimate.

In 2006, after systematically recording and analysing the qualitative characteristics of these varieties, and after producing single and mixed variety wine, I created a 6.5 acre vineyard with specific Greek and foreign vine varieties, with the aim of producing white and red wine.

In 2015 I proceeded to the construction of a new modern winery. The total area of vineyards is 80 ha. of which 30 ha. are private.

The result of this experience of many years, and of the long tests, is a high quality wine of organic management, with the distinctive name "CARYOS GΑΕΑ".

The Vineyards

They are located in New Karyes Larissa, a sloping land characterized as calcareous clay loam, with an altitude of 140m to 160m.

The microclimate of the region is characterized by heavy rainfall and low temperatures in winter, and high temperatures and prolonged drought in the spring and summer, which helps implement organic vineyard methods.

Since 2006, wine-growing is under the organic administration (certified by BIO HELLAS).

The planting density is 410 vines per 0.25 acre. and yields, from 2kg to 3kg grapes per vine. The total area of vineyards is 26 sq.m. divided into two plots of 2.5 and 4 acres.
