The plant-based egg substitute of Eat Just is expected to be released in Europe for the first time in 2022, after the green light received from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) the rovitsa protein contained in the product. According to the scientific opinion expressed by EFSA, the protein contained in JUST Egg is safe for human consumption, however, it is pointed out that due to its structural affinity with other legume proteins, such as soy and peas, it is possible to cause allergic reactions in people who are allergic to soy, peanuts and lupine. According to Josh Tetrick, co-founder and CEO of Eat Just, the arrival of JUST Egg in Europe will be one of the most important milestones in the history of the company, as it will gain access to millions of European consumers who choose a healthier diet. After all, Nielsen data show that plant-based food sales in European retail reached 3.6 billion euros in 2020, increased by 28% compared to 2019 and by 49% compared to 2018, with demand constantly increasing. It is noted that JUST Egg has already made its appearance.
