Macedonian Cuisine is an initiative of the Prefecture of Central Macedonia. It is our own way to support and organize the Gastronomical Tourism, by suggesting to our visitors a delicious travel in the tastes, materials and the recipes of a place rich in tradition and full of love for anything authentic. Its purpose is to develop and synthesize the products and recipes which were born through centuries of history in one of the richest crossroads of tastes and civilizations.
Macedonian Cuisine has its own unique identity, closely tied to the cultural heritage of the area. It combines authentic tastes and raw materials of excellent quality. It brings recipes which were born by the gastronomic tradition of Pontians, Vlachs, Sarakatsanis, Asia Minor Greeks and local residents, with the important effect of the Jew and Armenian community of the place into life. Macedonian Cuisine chooses its material, by following the seasons of the year and offers satisfactions which transcend time.
The main characteristics of Macedonian cuisine is the use of charcuterie, cheese, legumes, vegetables for the composition of unique recipes and the creation of delightful dishes. Following the wealth and the changes of the Macedonian landscape, each area of Macedonia has something special to add and to contribute in the gastronomic map, inspired by its own traditions. And hence, the journey becomes truly magical.
