WHITE GOLD THE GREEK WHITE ASPARAGUS

A demanding perennial crop that thrives in our area, since there are suitable soil and climatic conditions and the taste of our producers, who with their care maximize the results of cultivation. In the OP of the Agricultural Cooperative of Megaplatanos, white asparagus is cultivated. The new early varieties and the cultivation cares, in combination with the microclimate of the area, aim at the early harvest of high quality product.

The largest quantities of white asparagus are taken to the markets of Germany, since they have been associated with the German food culture, while quantities are also promoted to the markets of the Netherlands, France and Italy. More than 400 acres are cultivated and harvested around 250 tons while the harvest season begins in late February to early March, depending on the prevailing climatic conditions and ends in late April.
