NoA landscape of iconic beauty, a true fairytale, and people telling their stories from the Middle Ages to today through the Art of Wine.
Chestnut and oak trees color the horizon. The "Sleeping Beauty of Agrafa"—the legendary feminine figure that, if you close your eyes just a bit, emerges in the Agrafa mountain range—casts her shadow over the valley.
She envelops the small villages nestled in her welcoming embrace, protecting them from conquerors.
People raised by sky and soil, with faces and hands shaped by hard work, experiencing mornings soaked by rain and scorching midday sun.
THE LONG JOURNEY WITH DEEP ROOTS
In this welcoming embrace lies Mesenikola.
A small village with a grand history, blessed with an unexpected heritage: a captivating fairytale. This tale doesn’t begin with “Once upon a time,” but with an arrival. That of Monsieur Nicolas, a French nobleman who found himself in the area in 1455, after the dissolution of his Order. Enchanted by the landscape, he decided to build his new life here.
Monsieur Nicolas brought with him French wine culture and a passion for viticulture.
This led him to systematically develop viticulture in the region and highlight the "Mavro Mesenikola," a unique variety that has existed since ancient times in this area.
The local people subsequently adapted his name, transforming "Monsieur Nicolas" into "Mesenikola," as a humble recognition of his contribution to the region's productive development and winemaking history.
